I was surprised last year to stumble upon a spotted sandpiper protecting her chick(s) from me so late in the season. I learned that it was very likely the male parent! And that the female has more than one clutch and up to 5 a summer, thus, I'm assuming, the lateness? Sweet capture! ~ks
