But, this year I saw the red-head AND a "black-headed" woodpecker with 'dirty white' chest feathers in my birdbath this summer. After running outside and yelling at him every time he started pecking, he finally got the hint and left for good. So sad the population has half disappeared since the 60s, however. Habitat loss is dreadful for animals, and people give it so little thought.
