Sky Watch Friday: The Moon

Even though I typically photograph mostly birds, animals and other wildlife I have always been fascinated with taking pictures of the moon. A good telephoto lens acts a lot like a telescope and gives you a tiny peek at the moons surface.
The difficulty with photographing the moon is finding the right exposure. Typically you are trying to photograph a bright spot that is floating in a sea of darkness. Every once in a while you get lucky though and the moon is visible when the sun is up, this usually happens near dusk or dawn mainly during the winter. At those times you can get a great pic of the moon with a beautiful blue background, like the photo above.
