Sky Watch Friday: Yellowstone Scenery

I took this shot in Yellowstone National Park back in 2006. This area fascinated me as we drove between Mammoth and Norris, looking for wildlife to photograph, so I had to stop and capture it on film. I currently use the pic as the desktop background on one of my work PCs.

  1. The dead trees and the sky in the water, the green swamp growth... no wonder you use it as a screen saver.

  8. There's a certain beauty in it's starkness. I like it too. I like all the straight lines created by the tree trunks accented by the blue water and hill in the background. This is a good one!

  16. Love that picture! I've tried to see what sort of trees they were once but it's too small - some sort of fir I assume?

  17. I believe that the trees were probably lodgepole pine, which are very common throughout Yellowstone. There are many areas in Yellowstone that have similar dead trees. They are remnants of the large forest fires that ravaged the parks many years ago.
