This lovely little purple wild flower is called blue vervain. It is a native perennial that is a member of the verbena family. It thrives in sun light and is usually found in wet soil such as the shores of lakes and rivers, marshes, wet fields or ditches. Even though the flowers are small blue vervain is frequently visited by bees, small butterflies and skippers.
This is a lovely wildflower. I remember seeing it growing right on the banks of creeks in PA.
