American Rubyspot

The American rubyspot is a broadwing damselfly. Its bright red metallic color makes it unmistakable. Like all the broadwinged damselflies that live in Minnesota the American rubyspot is most often found along the banks of small to medium sized rivers. I photographed this one at Riverbend Nature Center in Faribault, MN

  3. Absolutely gorgeous!! I've never seen one like it. My favorite dragonfly guide is from Minnesota - Dragonflies of the North Woods by Kurt Mead!

  4. How in the world did you get the damselfly to stay still long enough to take its picture?!

Dibs of yellow and dabs of red—
Rainbow colors go to my head!

Dashes of gold and crimson too—
Painted like this I can’t feel blue!
