Happy New Year.

Most plants reproduce through the process of pollination. Pollen from one plant is used to fertilize another plant and thus produce seeds. While it is possible for pollen to spread via the wind most pollen is transfered between plants by insects, such as bees and butterflies. It is the flower that lures the insect to the plant. In this picture this swamp milkweed flower was just beginning to come into bloom.

Clear sharp shot of the milkweed. I wonder how small it was?

Your photo series for your calendar was awesome and such a precious gift!

Happy 2011!

So lovely! We have milkweed here in Singapore too but in red and yellow, not in the beautiful pink.

The species in the photo is not swamp milkweed (Asclepias incarnata) but common milkweed (A. syriaca). The former has more or less flat clusters and narrow leaves, the latter round clusters and broader oval leaves.
