Lotus

The most impressive flower in the water garden at Como Zoo is the lotus. Although the lotus is an aquatic plant it is not a waterlily. The main difference is the circular seed pod in the center of the lotus which is much different from the structure of the water lily. Seeds from the seed pod can remain viable for years, under the right conditions.

Incredible shot! The seed pod looks as though it has been delicately placed and is balancing precariously. ~karen
