A Weekend Drink

Green Orchid Bee
Green orchid bees are a species of bright green bees that are found in tropic and subtropic regions of North, Central, and South America. They are especially attracted to orchids, which is how they got their name, where they often collect scented oils. Although they are not very large, smaller then a honey bee, They have long tongues which enable them to get at the nectar in long flowers like the one above. The green orchid bee is not native to any place in the United States but they have recently begun to expand north into southern Florida, where I took this picture, and other parts of the deep south.
