Crow Vetch

Crown vetch is an invasive species here in Minnesota. This plant is a native to parts of Europe, Asia and north Africa. It was originally planted as a ground cover to help prevent erosion but because it can spread quickly it has become invasive. However whether it is invasive or native makes little difference to creatures such as this European skipper.

Such a lovely shot ... and it is a very pretty little flower even if it's considered a weed!

But Crown Vetch is so pretty and delicate! Skippers really excite me, they are so bright and shaped so differently. I photographed one the other day while out for a walk. I don't know much about them and will get a book from the library this next week. I'm hoping it is a TX variety I've not seen before.

Good shot! Its nice when the bugs stay still long enough to get a shot of them. Vetch may be a weed but it is a pretty one!
