The pasque flower is a wild flower that can be found growing on the prairies of North America, Europe and Asia. In North America it is most commonly found in the northwestern United States up through Canada and into Alaska. Silky hairs on the plant help to insulate if when it is growing in the colder climates.
The word Pasque comes from old French and means passover or Easter. The flower got its name because it blooms very early in the spring. It is also the state flower of South Dakota. We found a few of the flowers growing over by the petrified tree in Yellowstone.
