New Water Guidlines

This summer the United States Government is working on revising the guidelines on federal water projects. This is the first time that the guidelines on water planning have been re-written since 1983. It is about time since things have changed quite a bit in the past 28 years.

The current outdated policy relies a lot on controlling flooding using dams and levies. Incidents such as the Mississippi River flooding this year and the flooding of New Orleans during Katrina have shown us that the dams and levies may not be the best solution. Hopefully the government will take this opportunity to work with scientists and naturalists to come up with solutions that work more in harmony with nature. You can read more about this here.

My son works with water reclamation in the west...preserving and protecting. I will be interested in talking to him about this. Your shots of the lilies are stunning. They are one of my favorite flowers. Just beautiful. Genie

I think that the waterways esp along the Mississippi that flood often should be let for the river to reclaim. there are enough other areas for human dwellings, but we need water as much as nature does! ~ Faythe

love your photos of water.. Do not forget that the damns and levy system is failing and was ill planned for release f rom th eNorth Dakotas.. The Missouri Riverfloods have yet to reach a peak, as the snow melt is down to 50 percent left.. 1000s upon 1000s of people have lost or will lose their homes and business..and even if you have flood insurance it will not pay as it is not a natural disasterwn
