These pictures were taken back in 2009 at the Snake River Birds of Prey Festival in Idaho. We signed up for a burrowing owl tour that was lead by a Grad student at the University of Idaho that was studying the effects of pesticides on burrowing owls. As part of his project they had set up man made burrows which they opened up on a weekly basis to examine the chicks. On the tour we opened up two of these man made burrows to look at the chicks.

Awwwww . . . . so cute!
oh so cute!
I love watching the Wildbirds Unlimited webcam videos. Last year, it was all about the owl family... I did not see the chicks this small though... what a treat!

So very sweet! I have only been in burrowing owl country once, but wasn't lucky enough to see any.
Oh...so sweet and fluffy.
I've seen burrowing owls in nature but the only way I'd ever be able to see chicks is through your photos. Amazing! Thanks for sharing.
so adorable! but i have to ask... does their mum know your borrowed them for a photo shoot?
Amazing photos. One can see how delicate and vulnerable they are.
Precious babies! What cute little fuzzballs. Echoing Elva's comment - Will we get to hear their story? :)
These little guys or gals are so cute. Even their eyes are not open yet. I would not have known they are owls.
